Impressions of the IBUg festival of urban art and culture 2011 in Meerane (Germany), where nearly 100 urban artists from all over Europe, the USA and China this summer redesigned an abandoned factory. After the week-long creative phase the former textile combine presented itself as an impressive work of art and showed the whole spectrum of contemporary art with graffiti and wall painting, original space concepts, objects and installations, video animation and multimedia performances. The results of their work was shown to over 3000 visitors on three days together with a colorful program of short films, lectures, fashion shows and music. See you next year!
The IBUg 2011 in Meerane was a great success! This year’s urban art festival took place during the last week, bringing together nearly 150 urban artists from all over Europe, the USA and China who together redesigned an abandoned factory. The results of their work was shown on three days together with a colorful program of short films, lectures, fashion shows and music. With over 3000 visitors from the region around Meerane and all over Germany the festival celebrated a record result. Also on an artistic level the IBUg was convincing again. After the week-long creative phase the former textile combine presented itself as an impressive work of art and showed the whole spectrum of contemporary art with graffiti and wall painting, original space concepts, objects and installations, video animation and multimedia performances.

The former factory of “VEB Textilwerke Palla” at the Garden Street in Meerane previously produced worsted fabric for women's clothing (Meeraner Scots materials) and sewed coats and jackets for "Quinttet-Moden" from about 1958 to 1963. From 1970 on there also was an Dessinatur - a pattern for knitting department. From 26th August the now derelict factory with will be transformed with lots of color and creative ideas into a work of art and gets breathed in new life...
The “IBUg Pallast” opens it doors to the public for a Festival of Urban Culture from 2nd to 4th September. The side program offers a IBUg pub, which grants an insight view into the work of the artist during the creative phase, an urban art market including photographs by Conny Heimer from the last five years of IBUg, t-shirts, bags as well as works of the IBUg-artist, a film program about urban art and urban culture, an IBUg fashion show with AnneIhm (Leipzig), Petra Lorenz (Meerane) and Ariann Ruhle (Leipzig) and a raffle with a canvas by Loomit as the main prize. Among the highlights of the weekend are also the lectures by the Dresden based artist Jens Besser, who will present his latest book "Lak Aan Braak" about a Mural Art Project in the Netherlands, and by Matze Jung from the “Archiv der Jugendkulturen” from Berlin, who will report about graffiti in the Favelas of Rio de Janeiro. The IBUg Festival is open on Friday from 3 pm to 8 pm and on Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 8 pm. The IBUg party starts on Saturday at 10 pm. And on Saturday night from 10 pm the traditional IBUg party invites to celebrate and dance to hip-hop finest beats.

IBUg 2011 – the festival of urban culture in the West Saxon city of Meerane – goes into its sixth edition this year. From 26 August on we will move together with more than 50 artists into our new home – the former Palla-Werke on the Gardenstraße/Ecke Schmiederstraße. During a week-long creative phase with artistic workshops and collaborations the former textile combine will be transformed into a work of art by graffiti, street art, urban art installations and performances.
Also this year, many national and international artists like Ta55o and Help (Meerane), Zone56 (Glauchau), Tshunc and Flamat (Leipzig), Andy K and Jens Besser (Dresden), Zebster and Wurstbande (Berlin), Atem (Frankfurt am Main), HiFi (Dortmund), Chromeo (Switzerland), Ruskig (Sweden), Emilone (Austria) and Faunagraphic (Great Britain) have announced to IBUg. From 2 to 4 September the doors will open to the public. In addition to the exhibition with the results of the creative phase a comprehensive program with tours, a film program, lectures, discussions, a fashion show and the IBUg Aftershow Party will round off the festival.
